Governance Credential
We credential Christian boards because each and every board member needs to have the know-how to do due diligence and vote responsibly. Boards wield power, yet very few Christian board members have been trained to wield power effectively as servants of the Lord. We train board members not only on the basics of board governance but also on the subtleties that tend to make all the difference for the long-term health and sustenance of the Christian entity.
THE GOAL OF THIS CREDENTIAL IS TO EMPOWER BOARDS TO BE ABLE TO:

Approach the future with vision and not be reactionary.

Listen first in order to do due diligence.

Avoid unnecessary problems that happen when well-meaning board members unintentionally abdicate their ongoing responsibility to hold the entity in trust.

Articulate the difference between leadership and governance.

Take responsibility for past decisions made by other boards and former officers of the corporation.

Be a functional board that follows its own bylaws.

Make timely decisions based on truth, love, fiscal duties, proper power dynamics, organizational policies, federal and state laws, etc.

Act as one voice without doing group think.

Self-differentiate from other board members during discussions.

Adjust to the quirks of high-performing leaders and not be petty.

Supervise the president/ED/senior pastor.

Comprehend financial reports, including ledgers and graphs.

Keep records and excel in knowledge management.

Resolve conflicts effectively and efficiently.

Act with integrity as Christ followers, even in the face of opposition.
