PRESENTER: Sarah Sumner, Ph.D., MBA
DATE & TIME: Thursday, June 30 at 3:00 - 7:00 pm PDT
DESCRIPTION: Evangelical debates about women’s status in the church have popularized the notion that the New Testament word for head (which is kephale in the original Greek) either means “leader” or “authority” or “covering” or “preeminence” or “source.” The radical assertion of this 4 hour webinar is that head in the Bible means “head.” Dr. Sumner believes that headship is perhaps the most undeveloped doctrine in Christianity or perhaps the most misunderstood. Headship is far-reaching. It pertains to personal identity, marriage, divorce, family life, church life, ecumenism, racism, sexism, feminism, chauvinism, individualism, human development, and human destiny. As the most fundamental principle of ecclesiology, headship offers believers a theology of right relationships.
PRESENTER BIO: Dr. Sumner is a full professor who has lectured in over 35 Christian universities. She has spoken both nationally and internationally in church services, chapel services, graduation commencements, conferences, retreats, and in radio and TV spots including TBN, PAX-TV and CBS. She holds a Ph.D. in Systematic Theology from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, an MBA from Azusa Pacific University, an M.A. in Theology from Wheaton College, an MDiv Equivalent from Trinity, and a B.A. from Baylor University. She was trained as a Global Change Agent in the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
She has four other books including Men and Women in the Church: Building Consensus on Christian Leadership (IVP, 2003; now in its 12th printing), Leadership Above the Line (Tyndale, 2006), Just How Married Do You Want To Be? (IVP, 2008) and Angry Like Jesus: Using His Example To Spark Your Moral Courage (Fortress, 2015).
