Pastoral Counseling For Adults
Course Description:
The word psychology literally means, "study of the soul." Yet ironically, psychology has been secularized to the point that it does not pertain to soul care. Psychologists instead are trained as scientists who deal clinically with mental health issues. In this course, students are taught from a biblical starting point to understand how psychology informs the art of pastoring people. The course is entry-level, designed to be either the first step or the only step that students take into the realm of being trained in pastoral counseling.
Guiding Questions:
-
What is pastoral counseling? What types of issues do pastoral counselors address?
-
How can ministry leaders discern when clinical therapy is likely needed?
-
How does mental health relate to maturity in Christ?
