Writing a Book Proposal
Course Level: College Level
Hybrid Course Format:
TWO DAY INTENSIVE: 10 hours of class time (not including breaks)
VIRTUAL ONLINE DISCUSSIONS: One weeknight per week (1.5 hours)
In order to get a book published, most authors are first required to write a book proposal. There is no standard book proposal in the industry today. Different publishing companies have their own book proposal templates, and most of these companies only receive proposals from book agents rather than from authors directly. It is thus all the more important for an author to produce an excellent book proposal that stands out enough for a publisher to risk purchasing the author's manuscript. This course is for students who want to learn about book proposals and sketch one in preparation for submission.
Key Questions To Be Explored:
What are the main components of a book proposal?
How do I present my book idea in the most compelling way?
How can I be so truthful that even my book proposal shines the light of truth?
Do I need a book agent? How do I find the right book agent for me?
What are alternative ways for me to get my manuscript to acquisitons editors that might want my book?
