Theology in Art
Course Level: Graduate Level
Hybrid Course Format:
TWO DAY INTENSIVE: 10 hours of class time (not including breaks)
VIRTUAL ONLINE DISCUSSIONS: One weeknight per week (1.5 hours)
If theology is the study of the revelation of God, then in what sense is theology the study of art? Is theology itself an art? How can art be used to teach people timeless truths about God? This is a course for all kinds of artists including dancers, actors, singers, musicians, sculptors, painters, hairdressers, make-up artists, architects, and the like. In this course students will be taught to think theologically about art.
Key Questions To Be Explored:
What is art? What are fine arts?
How does thinking artistically require us to think theologically?
How can art be used to help people value truth?
What artistic expressions can summon people to stand with moral courage?
