Course Description:
In this foundational course, students consider the moral courage of Jesus of Nazareth who entrusted Himself to no one else but God. It further introduces existential questions that prod students to go deeper, yet still deeper, in their walk with the living God. It is a heartening, healing course that offers hope in the darkest hours and unexpected news to those who choose to persevere and wait on God regardless of immediate, painful outcomes. It is for people who yearn for and seek God’s goodness despite their own past failures and finite limitations. Pervasively this course has to do with core values and commitment and the soulful grief of wisdom that leads to hidden miracles of joy.
Key Questions To Be Explored:
- What is moral courage? Why is there such a lack of moral courage in the Church?
- What knowledge do we need in order to increase our moral courage?
- What does it mean to think Christianly about existential doubt and anxiety?
- What defenses do people raise against acting on what matters to them most?
- What if the final answer to the practical, pressing question of “how” to gain moral courage is by saying "yes” to Jesus in new ways?
