Moral Governance

Course Level:  Graduate Level

Course Format:

TWO DAY INTENSIVE:  10 hours of class time (not including breaks)
VIRTUAL ONLINE DISCUSSIONS:  One weeknight per week (1.5 hours)

Course Description:

The purpose of governing boards (such as elders of churches and trustees of Christian schools) is to govern.  What does it mean to govern?  Governing an organization is a very distinct function that few board members have been trained to understand.  To govern is to guide by rule of law.  To govern is to ensure integrity.  This course is designed to infuse both energy and wisdom into board members, future board members, church elders, and consultants.  It's a course that shows the genius of the biblical idea of having overseers.

Key Questions To Be Explored:

  • What character strengths do board members need to have?  What competencies?

  • What do good board members do?

  • How can a functional board safeguard the integrity of the entity?

  • What is a dysfunctional board?

  • How are church elders to oversee the local church?
