Civics & Civility
Course Level: Graduate Level
Hybrid Course Format:
TWO DAY INTENSIVE: About 10 hours of class time (not including breaks)
VIRTUAL ONLINE DISCUSSIONS: One weeknight per week
While civics is the study of the theoretical and practical rights and political duties of citizenship, civility has to do with being a courteous, respectful citizen. What does it mean to be a good citizen in a post-truth, post-Christian, interfaith, secular society? Is it biblical for Christians to be involved politically? What were the politics of Jesus? How can Christians be good citizens in light of the new politics of sex? This is a course about moral leadership in an age of moral decay and incivility.
Key Questions To Be Explored:
Does being a good citizen have anything to do with with following Jesus?
How will non-Christians hear the gospel when professing Christians fail to be civil?
How can Christians promote civility without compromising the faith?
